Federal Criminal Defense
Many White Collar Crimes and Serious Drug Offenses are prosecuted at the federal level. Lately, however, the United States Attorney's Office (the branch of government that prosecutes federal criminal offenses) has recently been aggressively prosecuting immigration offenses and gun possession violations in the post 9/11 era.
Federal prosecutions generally follow involved federal investigations by a federal agency such as the FBI or the DEA. An arrest can occur on a complaint, which is a written statement of the essential facts constituting the offense made under oath before a magistrate or on an indictment where an arrest warrant or summons is issued requiring the presence of a defendant at a stated time or place in lieu of being arrested.
